Diving NSW Welcomes Christine Lang as Development Officer
Published Fri 06 Jun 2025
Diving NSW is delighted to announce the appointment of Christine Lang as our new part-time Development Officer, commencing Monday, 11th June 2025.
Christine brings an extraordinary depth of experience and passion for diving, with a lifelong involvement in the sport both as an elite athlete and dedicated educator. Her diving journey began at the age of 8 and continued through to 24, during which she competed successfully at State, Interstate, and International levels. Chris proudly represented Australia on two international teams — as a junior in Woodlands, Texas, and later as a senior at the SGIO Games in Brisbane, 1981, in the lead-up to the Commonwealth Games.
Inspired by her time as a diver and a high school PE teacher, Christine pursued a career in education, graduating with a Bachelor of Education in Physical Education in 1985, followed by a Master of Education in Health Studies in 1994.
Her professional journey in combining education and sport began at Pymble Ladies’ College in 1986, where she seamlessly blended her twin passions: teaching PDHPE and coaching diving. Over the years, Christine has nurtured hundreds of young divers of all ages and abilities, fostering resilience, courage, and a lifelong love of sport. Under her guidance, the school’s diving program flourished, providing a pathway for athletes to enter NSW competitions and beyond.
In 2006, Christine founded Diving Connections, a diving club focused on school-based divers and creating inclusive, high-quality experiences for athletes and their families. The club has been instrumental in the development of numerous NSWIS divers, including Brittany O’Brien and Sam Fricker, while continuing to support both recreational and competitive pathways.
A passionate advocate for grassroots and school sport, Christine has convened diving events across IPSHA, IGSA, and CIS, and has served as Manager in Charge for School Sport Australia and Pacific School Games teams. These roles have elevated the profile of school diving and offered invaluable educational and competitive experiences for countless students.
Christine also developed a DIVER Levels System within her school to foster structured progression, goal setting, and individual achievement. This initiative has been key in mentoring junior coaches and judges, supporting the sustainable growth of the sport.
With diving deeply embedded in her personal and professional life, Christine has also shared this journey with her family — husband Marty and son Matt — both of whom have been actively involved in the sport.
We are thrilled to welcome Christine Lang to the Diving NSW team and look forward to the vision, leadership, and dedication she brings to the Development Officer role.
Welcome, Chris!
