Diving NSW is the governing body of diving in NSW and the ACT. Diving NSW was formally known as NSW Amateur Diving Association and was formed in 1971. The name was changed to NSW Springboard and Platform Diving Association in 1987. In 2004 another name change to Diving NSW saw the organisation plunge into a new era, together with a proud history of sporting excellence from grass roots, sports development and high performance.

Diving NSW provides a quality sporting environment for all individuals at school, club and state levels with Athlete, Coaching, Officiating and Volunteering pathways enabling individuals of all age groups to enjoy, excel, become involved and participate in the sport of diving.

Diving NSW has club programs throughout regional and metropolitan areas in NSW and in the ACT.

Matthew Mitcham won the gold medal in the Men\'s 10m Platform at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Matthew\'s final dive of the Games was the highest scoring dive in Olympic history, scoring 112.10 points.

The NSWIS Diving Program aims to create the optimum training environment for athletes competing at an international level as well as supporting emerging athletes with the potential to achieve success on the world stage.

Diving NSW provides a comprehensive competition program from Novice, Age group, Masters and Elite to Open. The Season Program commences on the 1st July to the 30th June each year. Interclubs, State Age Championships, State Elite Junior Championships, Open Championships, Metropolitan and Country Championships and Geoff Montgomery Memorial Meet are the major competitions held throughout the season. Diving NSW provides support for several school competitions and programs.

There are six different groups of platform and springboard dives. The first four types involve rotating in different directions relative to the board and the starting position. The fifth group includes any dive with a twist. The final group, used in platform diving, begins with an armstand.

Divers are judged by panels of either five or seven judges for individual events and nine or eleven judges for synchronised diving. All judges award scores between zero and 10 points for each dive performed. In synchronised diving one set of judges award for technique of each individual performance while the other set of judges consider the synchronisation of the pair and the overall impression of the dives must be taken into account.

The points to be considered in judging the overall impression of a dive are the technique and grace of: the starting position and the approach, the take-off, the flight, the entry.

Dives may be performed in the following positions: Straight (body must remain straight), Pike (body bent at the hips), Tuck (bent at the hips and knees) or Free. In the free position, the body position is optional but the legs shall be together and the toes pointed. The Free position is only used in twisting dives.
