After a fantastic eighteen years in the sport of diving, which has included six Australian Titles, two Commonwealth Games and one Olympic Games Scott Robertson has decided to retire from competitive diving. Scott says the decision to retire has come after much deliberation and consultation with his coach, NSWIS , family and friends and of course as a result of his most recent injury set back. He retires from diving a proud and happy athlete and has thoroughly enjoyed his time in the sport, the competitions from juniors to seniors, club competitions to the Olympic Games, the travel from interstate to overseas and the many challenges he has faced.
Scott said, "I leave the sport with little regret, but a service to give back to those who enabled me to achieve and pass on that same belief to a new generation of divers." So we can look forward to seeing Scott around the pool either coaching or judging for a long time.

NSWIS Assistant Coach Vyninka Arlow is recovering well after her recent hip replacement. Vyninka had surgery her troubled hip on Wednesday morning and has already started her rehabilitation taking a few steps on a walker. She is expected to be released from hospital on Monday certain to be scooting around to pool deck soon after. Good luck Vyninka for a speedy recovery. Everyone is thinking of you and wishes you well!!!!

The 2012 NSW Country Diving Championships held in Lightning Ridge on the weekend has been a resounding success.  The divers from all around NSW and QLD competed to the best of their ability and many of them qualifying for the 2012 Australian Age and Elite Junior Diving Championships.   There were outstanding performances by Liam Connelly from Hunter United Diving Academy taking out the best 5 dives of the meet and Hunter United Diving Academy also taking out the Country Club of the meet, closely followed by Lightning Ridge Diving Club. 

The most outstanding performances by Lightning Ridge divers were that of Rory Cheal  in the 12/13 1metre and Sean White in the 11/U 1metre, who were the first divers from the region to qualify for the Australian Age Diving Championships to be held in Adelaide in April 2012. Some of the other Lightning Ridge divers narrowly missed out on qualifying for the Australian Age titles; however there will be more opportunities for the divers to qualify at the State titles in Newcastle in March.  The Lightning Ridge divers have improved in leaps and bounds over the past couple of months with the assistance of Allan Bull Diving NSW Coaching Director and the eager new local coaches to be ready for the country championships. That in itself is an amazing accomplishment and the club should be very proud of its achievements – it has a very bright future!   

The 2012 Diving NSW Country Championships in Lightning Ridge will be the first Diving NSW event held at the new aquatic cnetre. Thanks to the Major Sponsors Walgett Shire Council and the Lightning Ridge Bowling Club. Thanks also to the many Event Sponsors. The Championships in Lightning Ridge is sure to be a great success with over fifty competitors entered with the support of sponsors, the host club and all attending it is sure to be a fantastic meet. One that should not be missed. There will be many competitors from throughout the state and Queensland, and their families have never been to Lightning Ridge and it is anticipated that most of them will take the opportunity to do some sightseeing and relax in the town’s wonderful friendly atmosphere. Their visit to Lightning Ridge will no doubt be enjoyable and memorable as will the 2012 Country Diving Championships.
