The Board of Diving Australia is pleased to announce the appointment of David Bell as the new CEO of Diving Australia. David will commence in the role on Monday June 3rd 2013. In the interests of information and transparency set our below is a summary re the recruitment process and some relevant background information re David.
1. About the process
After receiving proposals from three executive search firms earlier in the year, we chose Peter Murphy from Davidson Recruitment in Brisbane to assist with the process. Advertisements were run on “Seek” and “Sportspeople”, and candidates were also drawn in from various networks (the Board, Peter Murphy, the Australian Sports Commission (ASC), etc).
Over 75 people applied for the role, with the vast majority being Australian based. After a careful screening process, including a review of applications by the ASC,(as required in our ASC funding agreement) four candidates were chosen for first round interviews conducted in Brisbane on Monday April 15th. Interviewers in the first round were Ashley Wilson, Sarina Bratton, Michael Murphy and David Crocker from the ASC. Two candidates stood out, and both were invited to a second round interview held on Friday May 3rd in Sydney.
In the second round – again with AW, SB, MM, and DC interviewing – each candidate was asked to present two challenging leadership situations they have encountered that required driving change in a complicated stakeholder context. As in the first round, David Bell stood out as a clear number one.
Five reference calls on David Bell have now been completed, and the feedback has been resoundingly positive.
